NFL Fans Everywhere are Scratching their Heads

Strike up a conversation with any football fan lately and you get the same reaction...this season is so wierd?! Personally, I love how things are shaping up, despite my Broncos' lasckluster performances. It's nice to NOT have a clear cut winner by week 8. I love the parody and the mistery as to which teams will make the post season.

While watching last night's game, everyone had the same thought...what happend to Indy? Are they really that banged up? Remember with Peyton Manning could carry the entire team to victory and make it look easy? I am thrilled for Tennessee Titans fans, but am no where near ready to declare them the best team in the NFL. Are you?

My absolute favorite point to make with other fans is this...remember how a lot of folks were declaring the Raiders as this season's sleeper team? Ha! I was saying it then and I'll repeat it now...a sleeper team is a team that sneaks up on you in the season! It cannot be predicted. I never believed Raiders would be this year's sleeper team (and not just because I am a Broncos fan.) I just believe you cannot predict those things.

Now, St. Louis? They are sneaking a bit. But still too soon to know which team will be this year's surprise. I do, however, look forward to finding out. God bless the NFL & all who love it!

Monday Night Match-up: Denver at New England

Recovering from stomach flu for 4 day so my Broncos jersey is a little loose...but my guys are tight! Come on boys, make me proud tonight! You win, I win (my pool!)

Cutler to Marshall, for touchdown & Denver recovers and takes it home (that's what I hope to hear all night long.)

Week 5 Sunday Highlights - New Cutler Jersey, New Defense & 12 Innings of Baseball

Following last week's devistating loss to Kansas City I figured my John Lynch jersey needed to be retired and so I went to NFL Shop and ordered myself a Cutler jersey. I figure he's pretty amazing and doesn't look like he'll be going anywhere too soon. I'd like to have a jersey that lasts a few years!

So we go into Week 5 at 3-1, a top ranked offense and poop on a stick defense. In my opinion, our defense is suffering because Lynch is gone. Against Tampa Bay that can be problematic but I am optimistic. Fortunately, my Cutler jersey arrived on Saturday in the nick of time. Also arriving was a Denver D I had not seen previously. A major relief. So fortunately for Broncos fans, they scratched, clawed and sacked their way to a victory, still alive and dominating a shakey AFC West. Can't say anything good for the Chargers, sorry babe. Seriously though, going for it on 4th in the first half when it's a 7 point game? That is just bad coaching.

Around the league, NY Giants dominated, we need to keep an eye on the World champs. I was watching the NFL Countdown show on ESPN Sunday am and they were commenting on how fantastic Coughlin's disciplinary style is for a team. Does anyone remember his first year in NY and how hated he was for that? Apparently, that team needed it, it worked and everyone likes it now.

Back to bad coaching...does anyone believe Wade Phillips is a great coach? And while we're speaking of Parcells...he is the man! Have you been watching Miami? That has to be all Bill Parcells! I wish he could hang out in Washington DC for a season and not with the Redskins...are you with me?

So Sunday was a good day, not as many close calls and OT as in previous weeks, but then there was the American League Division Series between Angels and Red Sox. Talk about a nail biter, I was having a heart attack! Fly ball to center with 3 outfielders - couldn't a little league player call that and get it right? Just sayin.

Fortunately 12 innings and a lot of wine later, the Angels managed to stay alive another day (so Palin-esque) and tonight we get another shot to bring the series back to L.A.

Raider Fans are Jumping Ship

I am so not a Raider fan but I do feel for Lane Kiffin. Hopefully, his fate will be as brilliant as Mike Shanahan. Today, however, I received one of the funniest emails ever, forwarded to me by my nephew, which he received from his wife's, cousin's, brother's, aunt's husband or something like that. Anyway, it's hysterical...

It’s official; I’m resigning my membership in the Raider Nation effective immediately. My resignation shall be in effect through the duration of Al Davis’s life on earth. Yes, I will consider becoming a Raiders fan again when that man dies. In case you were busy watching the stock market today, Al Davis fired Lane Kiffin, the head coach of the Raiders, after only 4 games into the season. Worse, he is refusing to pay Mr. Kiffin the balance of his contract and preparing for a lengthy (and costly) legal battle as he did when he fired Mike Shanahan back in 1995 (Shanahan won the lawsuit and subsequently 2 Super Bowls with Granada Hills High’s finest.)

During the next few days I will consider accepting fandomship in other team’s of the national football league. It will not be the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Any team named after a body of water and not an actual city is automatically disqualified. I will pay extra consideration to teams located in the State in which I was born and raised (where most people should find their teams.) Teams that left the region such as the Rams or other teams with a 0-4 record will also not be considered. The decision to incinerate all Raider paraphernalia currently owned is being considered.

A resolution not to adorn or otherwise display such paraphernalia has commenced. However, I still retain the right to observe Raider competitions and root against the opponent. Sadly, the day has finally come, I am no longer a Raider fan. How long will my Al Davis life estate in non-Raider fandomship last? Only the grim reaper knows….

For more laughs, you can read about Al Davis' latest trip to dementia Island here.
